And is there any difference between other peoples jailbreak software?

As for which CFW to use, its ultimately down to you, there is no "best" CFW, each have slight variations and offer different features. To choose a CFW best for you would be to decide what you plan to use your JB PS3 for. If you plan to convert your PS3 from CEX to DEX, then you will require a REBUG REX CFW. If you plan to mod games you can use either CEX or DEX.
I currently use REBUG 4.46 REX CFW as I am constantly changing my PS3 from CEX to DEX and vise versa to allow me to mod on DEX, and play ps2 backups using CEX.

To make it easier, just decide what you plan to do, then find out the differences between each CFW. keep in mind that some PKGs only worth with some CFWs.

You can change CFW at any time, just keep in mind when downgrading to a lower CFW.
If you wish to replace FW with another CFW (e.g. 3.55Kmeaw to 3.55 REBUG) then just update from the xmb.
Same if you were to update to a higher CFW.
But if you wanted to downgrade 4.50 to 3.55 per say, you would require a 999 downgrader, from Rogero or REBUG. then install the 3.55 CFW u wish
