(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So a few months ago my Playstation stopped reading games, i'll tell how everyting happened, i was playing FIFA13 in my bedroom, everything was going fine, turned off the console, moved it to the living room, turned it on, put the disk in it, PS3 didn't read it, made a weird eject noise and didn't eject the CD. At that time i didn't bother much about it so i just stopped playing my games and bought some new ones from the PS Store, so i wouldn't need a CD to play them. So in the mean time i kept playing the digital ones from the HDD, then suddenly about one month later i thought to myself "I wonder if the CD drive is still 'broke' ", so i put in FIFA13 again and i actually worked, i didn't even do anything to fix it.. It just worked. But i already had bought FIFA14 from the PS Store so there was no point in it working anymore. Now recently i bought MW2 back just to play with some friends (not a digital copy - the prices on the PS Store for this game are a little too much over the value of the actual game), went home and tried to put the disk in, same problem again! My frustration was way too high at this point, i thought it had fixed itself and without even using it after it was good, it broke?! The problem is the same, and only with Blu-Ray CD's, i tried some movie DVD's and it worked just fine... But with Blu-Ray CD's it just does that weird ejecting noise and doesn't read it...
Here is what i've done so far:
- Restored File System
- Tried all those "methods" that apparently work on youtube (Moving the PS3 upwards, downwards, sideways, etc etc)
- Opened up the PS3 (warranty had already expired so i had nothing to lose here) and cleaned everything, including the Blu-Ray Lens, inside the CD Drive

None of that worked.

Can anyone here who has already dealt with this problem help me?
I'm not really looking forward to buying new parts for the console, i'm already on my second PS3 and don't really feel like spending money on it anymore.

Sorry if i wrote too much to explain it all,

Any help on this would be appreciated :/

does it make a rattling sound without a disc?
because my friend used to have the same problem, what he had was the following: in the bluray is a battery, a flat one and after moving the ps3 to his room h heared something falling, and no disc where played.
i openend his ps3 and it seemed the battery inside the bluray felt ontop of the bluray lens

Sounds to me like you need to replace the laser inside the bluray drive.
Some models of ps3 have a laser for normal dvds and a laser for blurays built on the same laser block.

The following user thanked dannyk79 for this useful post:

Forgot to mention that I replaced the bluray laser in mine that I described as above and I got a new laser from eBay for £9.90 lol.

What model is your PS3? Did you replace the laser yourself? I guess that's cheap for a fix

I have sold it on now as I got it as a repair job, fixed it, downgraded and sold it on.
It was a cech H (fat) I think and it had a kes-410A laser unit fitted.
And yes, I replaced the laser myself as it isn't a hard job.

Ok mate no worries.
When you remove the lense from the bluray it will have a small white sticker on the side of it. Just have a look on ebay for the same one.
