Hello all , I've run into a problem, I was installing a extra fan on my Ps3 slim (cech 200) , I spliced into the fan wires onto on the Ps3 coming from the mb. (Black and brown wires) , while doing so I touched the Grey wire with the brown wire. The Ps3 cut off after beeping one time. After that I cut the system off for about 20 mins scared to turn it back on . I turn it back on and notice the red light on the front is very very dim
When I turn the system back on the light turns green(nothing appears on screen of tv) , then stays green for about 15-20 seconds.
After that it turns off and begins to blink red for another 20-30 seconds before going back solid red.
I know there may not be a fix for this but I would be thanks for any info on how to fix it or what burnt out. Thanks for any help in advance
You should use a multimeter next time.
You may have either shorted something or weakened your power supply. The ps3 power supply could supply power to some fans without dimming or anything so it was definitely caused by the shorting of the black and grey wires..grey wire is power signal and black is ground..
Usually when the power supply is bad its starts to "hum" or just doesn't supply power or lights at all..
You may have a popped component or your wiring could be janky. If the fan is still connected, you only need power from the red wire and ground from the black wire. it will supply 12v. Exclude the grey wire unless you have a fan that can read a signal wire.
You might just be shorting the ps3 and throwing you into YLOD. If you stop the short (put everything back to stock) it should boot up again. If not, then you have a popped component or damaged hardware. If its not the power supply, you can look on the motherboard for any obviously popped capacitors (tops will be raised) but if its not anything noticeable it will probably be a challenge to find and fix this..
