So, I basically ordered this.

Should this fix my problem?

Also, what would I need to open the PS3.

depends, sometimes the YLOD is from bad sitting heat syncs and bad paste but most the time its a damaged/worn component or cracked solder balls

I'm just going to pretend you said yes, they have a kit with a heat-gun too might just purchase it instead.

I don't even know, tbh kinda feel dumb.

if you fix the ps3 i would keep them if i was you because they will help keep the console cooler by a few degrees because they spread heat more evenly

i wouldn't recommend a heat gun repair because in most cases it will get YLOD again within a few mouths and you will still need to use flux, but in same rare cases it will perma fix if done right but you should have made sure there wasn't another part to blame first, such as psu, board damage or a board component etc, you should look into getting another console or getting fix by someone that is good with BGA work or a professional. the heat done fix is for people that can't afford a new console or have someone else to repair it , or if you just want a quick fix with what you have access too as cheap as possible

thats for the ps3 slim, im pretty for the chips are different sizes, and it depends on the quality of flux and thermal paste if you are gonna do a heat gun fix, to me it looks cheap and nasty but i could be wrong

Most of the time after ylod you will most likely get in again, it would just be a temp fix. Sometimes ylod can come from bad sitting heat syncs, but most of the time its from cracked solder balls.

YLOD isn't permanently fixable. You're better off selling for parts and getting another. It'll always come back.
