im not EXACTLY sure but i think im correct.

1. make sure your ps3 is off.
2. hold down the power button until you hear 3 beeps or it turns off.
3. after it turns off hold it down again until you hear 1 beep then 2 consecutive beeps.

im pretty sure that when you put a 3.61m ps3 into service mode it will stay like that permanently....i might be wrong though
