We only suffer because large corporations like Sony fail to see the impact piracy has is minimal. Just look at the PC, people have been pirating on here for years but PC gaming is still going strong. Remember, piracy downloads do not equal lost sales. I buy everything I can afford; the several things I have pirated I would never have bought for either lack of money or for seeing a lack in value.

Firstly, digitally pirated items have no physical value so therefore it's nothing like stealing from a shop. The supply is endless and the cost for each pirated game/movie/whatever to the publisher is zero. Secondly if I don't see value in something I will not hand over my money for it, however if I see value I spend my money no questions asked. Just look at Minecraft, anyone who can afford it buys it and it's only pirated by those w/o the monetary resources to be splurging on some game. Minecraft is a perfect example because the fair pricing has made Notch & his co-workers rich, had they priced the game closer to the $40+ mark it wouldn't have sold nearly as much and it would have been pirated a whole lot more, myself included. Also, if you pirate something and you suddenly see value you didn't before you can still buy the game and give the developer/publisher their cut. I'm a perfect example as of late; I pirated Portal 2 but ended up loving it so much and seeing so much value I bought it on Steam.

Not all pirates are these horrible thieves many perceive them to be, heck we're just people who for the most part can't afford to waste money on below-par games. Maybe if you weren't so well off financially you would understand how this all ties in with the value of money.

Then there's the simple fact that jailbreaking a system does not automatically enable piracy. All jailbreaking a system like a PS3 does is open up the software to do whatever you want with it, much like jailbreaking a phone or merely owning a PC. What's actually illegal and in the wrong here(if you disregard my earlier arguments) is just the pirating, and that's only made possible by a small emulation file. This file is in-fact what should be illegal here, not the keys that Geohot posted publicly or the mere ability for any person to do what he/she wishes with their own legally owned system. If you buy the hardware, you should be able to do whatever you want with it. This applies to everything else out there bar potentially lethal items(cars, guns etc), so why should gaming consoles be excluded from that? After all, the architecture inside the system is so similar to computers you'd struggle to tear them apart if you didn't already know which was which.

I'm guessing you won't have a decent rebuttal to all this, so let me end on a positive note. Yes, piracy in it's core is wrong, however the only people actually doing any harm are those that can afford to buy stuff legitimately but choose for whatever stupid reason not to. Well, them and the large corporations like Sony that fail to see piracy for what it really is. Along with those like yourself whose arguments are absolutely hopeless and incredibly weak, but still yet somewhat annoying. Ok, that wasn't such a positive note. Errrm... yeah...
