Check your ethernet cable is connected properly, what type of connection are you on... wired or wireless ? if your on wireless you may want to check that the connection point for your cable modem sometimes goes on your console so test that there both in full working order before starting by using a wired connection on both. I have this issue & i have to hold the cable in my PS3 while its data transferring. Narrow down the possibilities

sorry but ... i have a question related to this topic ..
when i do data transfer to another ps3 ..do the trophies from old ps3 get transferred too or only games ?
