hey get the pse on 3.55 cfw its worth it for like hosting mw2 lobbies nd im pretty sure u cant do backups anymore also theres a dev like kakrotoro wat ever his name but hes a fat ass so lets call him fatass so fatass might realese a 4.00 jb but no modchips or anything needed. so i say either take the chance and wait or buy the 3.55 nd add me IHOSTCLOBBIES ON PSN

Okay so, completely ignore ateazy12, he is a bit of an idiot.

Anyway, the main purpose people use 3.55cfw for is game backups, meaning copying (or downloading) a game to an external HDD or to the ps3's HDD and then playing it without the disk using a backup manager. There are also homebrew apps such as emulators. The trade off for having a jailbroken ps3 is that most of the newer games require firmware 3.60+, meaning they cannot be played on the 3.55cfw (unless you buy an trublue dongle, which still has limited game compatibility, but most major titles are now supported). Also there is no psn access at all on 3.55, but if you keep both ps3's, one can be for jailbreak, one for online and newer games.

So, really to sum it up. If you want to be able to install homebrew apps and play game backups of older releases, then go ahead and buy a ps3 on 3.55 and jailbreak it. But since you are wanting to jailbreak because you are banned (going under the assumption that you no longer want to use PSN), then you could buy an E3 Flasher and downgrade your ps3 at a much lower cost than buying a whole new console.
