(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey all, I'm knew to the forums and also quite new to the ps3 "modding" scene. A few days ago I received a 40GB fat ps3 (CECHG-03) PAL. It is missing it's blu-ray drive and its original HDD :(

When I got the ps3 I had been told that the previous owner tried to update from firmware 1.90 to 3.00 but it got stuck in a loop because of the faulty blu-ray. I managed to get the ps3 into recovery mode using a HDD i took from a 60GB backwards compatible ps3. When I tried to update the ps3 using a BDB CFW (KMEAW BDB SDC 3.55) on a USB stick it asked me to format the HDD first.

It gets to around 88-89% then it gets to 100% quickly thereafter and displays the error: 8002f2E6. From what I have gathered from other forums; some people have fixed this by using another HDD so I decided to give it a try with my laptops 200GB HDD only to get the same error code. I'm beginning to worry that I may need the original 40GB hard drive, or maybe there is another fault with the ps3 itself.

I'm hoping somebody here can shed some light on this. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Smile

Edit: I have tried formatting both the 60GB and 200GB HDD to both FAT32 and NTFS but i still get the same 8002f2E6 error.

what is BDB CFW (i dont have a cfw ps3 anymore so i havent kept up 2 date and unaware of what BDB CFW is)

u need the bluray plugged in to fully update (if no bluray present gets stuck in loop)

i take it that the cfw is to bypass bluray checks on installation possibly?

i think its definaltly because your missing the bluray u need a bluray present working or not just to update

the cfw ur using will bypass the checks so it will fully install but ive just done a quick google and found its sumthing to do with the drive not being present on the board

Yes BDB firmware bypasses the blu-ray check to update with a faulty drive. I also forgot to mention, the 40GB ps3 would hang on "Searching Please Wait" when trying to update with the USB stick without the blu ray drive installed.

I then used the blu-ray drive from my 60GB model and it detected the FW on the USB stick within a minute or so. I was then able to proceed to formatting the HDD only to get 8002f2E6 once the format completes.

Update: As I mentioned in the above post, I had taken the blu-ray drive from my 60GB model and put it into the 40GB, this allowed me to update to 3.55ofw without any problems. It seems that trying to install any BDB CFW would give me the 8002f2E6 error. I am guessing this is due to the MD5 key associated with the PUP.

Now I want to try and install CFW without getting the 8002f2E6 error so that I can run ps3 games I have on my HDD. Any suggestions? thanks.

Thanks for the info I will try the original kmeaw now. Just curious, am I able to launch the games off the HDD with only the blu ray logic board connected, or do I need a fully working blu-ray? thanks.

Hi all, can anyone nail this issue for me.

I had a ps3 3.55 ofw on it.
downloaded kmeaw 3.55cfw
gone to hidden settings and updated that way.
got the 2 folders installed as one being install pkg files.
I have installed backup managers tried (black screen)
I have installed lv2.pkg tried (black screen)
I have installed fix restrictions i think its called ...tried (black screen)

installed kmeaw patched pup
installed patched Rm manager for kmeaw tried (black screen)
run lv2 patcher 1st as i still get a black screen no matter what pkg file i try and run.

I have a fat model ps3 on 3.55
it is a 40 gig model which i have put a 60gig hard drive in it.

no matter what i run as pkg files it just gives me a black screen. :(

Any help would be appreciated.

Toby
