well download a filemanager or your choice (eg comgenies) and install it via usb/installpkg, on your ps3. then from there all you need is a modified w@w patch, (can be found here on the site under w@w exploits and Hacks) from here after you put the patch on your usb you simply go in file manager and overite the current w@w patch with the modiffied one, then transfer your data from your 3.55 jb ps3 to your current and play online.

You need two ps3 1 to transfer your modded Patch and 1 to play online Cause you can't play online with a jail broken ps3. Everything you need could be found on this site

Okay so obviously you are completely new to ps3/jailbreaking.
If you cannot run bootlegs, that means that you cannot copy a game from disk to your hard drive to play without the original disk, but you can install a firmware to allow that if you really are on firmware 3.55.
If you're on 3.55 you cannot get online so you wont be able to take the hacks online. You need 2 systems so you can data transfer the patch from the jailbroken 3.55 console to an update console that can go online. You wont get bricked (which means you screw up the ps3 making it as useful as a brick, hence the name) by hacking the game, it is pretty much impossible.
USB drive, internet, you're set to do anything you can do on a single jailbroken console, which does not include playing online.
