Instead of the usual flash drive icon appearing in the game save folder nothing was there.
When I went to copy the game data the only places where I could copy the game data to were other accounts on the ps3 or the ps plus game back up utility. I wasn't able to copy any of my gamesaves or even view my flashdrive on the ps3.
Is this something wrong with my flashdrives or has PS3 cracked down on this?

i think your device is broken have you an second USB Device for testing ? maybe is your USB input on Ps3 broken
