(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); hi guys

So I have a pretty simple question, how does the downgrade via Progskeet or E3 work? Does it wipe everything clean off the harddrive? And about how long does it take? Is it pretty simple to do as well?

I've researched and watched videos and such but no one really gives any real information, just commentary on what they are doing, so I would appreciate any help you guys can give.

Thanks

I don't know much about progseek but I have done a lot of research on the E3 as I am getting ready to buy one in the next week or so.

The estimated time to take apart your console and install the E3 and put it all back together is about an hour.
After that you have to back up your saves/bios. After you've backed everything up you start the actual downgrade process. I believe it takes anywhere from 30min to an hour.

So my projected time for doing all of this is about 2 hours. I know when I go to do this process I am going to take extra time to ensure I did every step correctly. I am not worried about how long the process will take, only that it is done right.

As for simplicity.. You have to be confident in yourself to dismantle your PS3 and put it back together along with the downgrade process. E3 is the simplest was as of now. Progseek requires you to solder wires to the motherboard, now i have good solder skills but I don't trust myself soldering something to my motherr board.

The E3 might be a bit more expensive but it is worth it.

Thanks for the reply, I'm very confident in taking apart my ps3 and putting back together. My main concern was after the installation of the E3 flasher, how long it takes to downgrade your firmware, cause what I would like to do is sync all my trophies I have earned in 3.55CFW when I upgrade to 4.00OFW and then downgrade again so I can play on 3.55CFW again.

Once you have the E3 installed the time of course is cut down by a lot. You can then preform the downgrade and upgrade when needed.

This video shows the entire process

yeah i've seen that video, i guess the part where I'm lost is only going to be solved once I have it and I actually do the downgrade and upgrade myself. Just two more questions and I'll let you go haha, first is everytime I downgrade, does it wipe the harddrive clean? so would I have to back up everything, data etc and then once I'm downgraded I would just transfer all that back onto the ps3, or does it just keep everything on there, and the only thing that changes is the firmware?

Thanks again for all the help

I'm not %100 sure about that to be honest. It might wipe the drive when you downgrade but when you upgrade everything will be fine. I would back up everytime you downgrade just in case. So that way if something happens during the downgrade and the system bricks, you can "unbrick" it using the E3 with your bios backup.

If it bricks during the downgrade, is it hard to unbrick, or does E3 already have a step by step for how to unbrick. And is it common for it brick? sorry i know you don't have it but you seem to have the answers i need haha

I believe you need to solder a wire to the mother board if it bricks. Don't quote me on that tho. Also, if you follow to instructions step by step then there shouldn't be any problems.

And.. no worries man, I have done a bit of research on the e3, by no means do I know everything about it but i know enough to answer a few questions =]
