I assume you're on 4.10, so yeah you need to buy a hardware flasher to downgrade. First, we have to figure out whether your console has NAND or NOR flash memory. Check out this table and find your model.

Alright, you need to buy a hardware flasher, such as the ProgSkeet or E3 Flasher. The ProgSkeet requires soldering and is really for more novice modder, but is much more reliable than the E3 Flasher and gives you valid dumps nearly 100% percent of the time. On the other hand, the E3 flasher is device for a less experienced "modders" if you will. It just requires disassembling your PS3, and clipping a ribbon cable to your NOR chip. There are many tutorials, so I'll leave you up to researching that. With either of these, you can downgrade your PS3, put on your patches (I assume you want to jailbreak to host Challenge Lobbies), and then update to host your shit.
