The question I am trying to ask is "Can I just data transfer everything and have no problems as long as I won't be putting discs in it?"

Yes i know, Buy a used BR drive from Ebay which will be some around 10$-40$ depeding from who. And just replace the hard drive with the broken one and bamm working ps3... I did that to my jailbroken ps3 ..... Or you can try using it with the broken BD either way works...

i bought a ps3 on 3.41 ofw from a desperate crackhead off craigslist for $20,had broken bluray and is now running 3.55geohot. u can replace the bluray if u want but really is no need. mine works fine without it.

i got one for like $100 with a broken blueray drive and the only thing i can do really is play roms, i was wondering if i could just order a used br drive and it work with my ps3 or if it was tied into the motherboard with serial numbers and all that junk

okay boys if ur buying a new / used blue ray it has to be the same modle as ur ps3 or it will not work and to transfer ur shit back n forth u need a 4.10 spoofer pkg look on google the site that has it is code name rebug
