But I started thinking, Theres threads for an "alternative to jailbreaking" which will allow you to never have to reformatt your hdd.

I have an old hdd from a phat model that the bluray mech blew out on and i was in the middle of fixing. But lets just say I moved out of my moms and she threw THE WHOLE PS3 AWAY. i was pretty mad when I found out but i still have the harddrive.

What I was think is, Can i erase the checks then spoof it to act like 4.10 with a spoofer and use it on my 4.10 slim model?

Please don't flame, for I did mention I am new to this.
Just want a yes or no, and maybe a slight reason on why, so I can understand a little better
