If you jailbreak your console, you can't play online with it. And there is no way to get around a ban. To my
knowledge at least :p If Sony sees reports against you for hacking or what have you, then a ban is very possible.

How do people hack online then?

The way people host mods online is because they have 2 ps3s. One ps3 that is on 3.55 cfw and the other ofw 4.11. They then put all the hacks/mods on their cfw and then do a data transfer from their 3.55 to 4.11, which means you will now have all of the things that were on your 3.55, now on your 4.11. You will not be able to run homebrew on it, though you will be able to host lobbies online because you now have a ofw 4.11 with mods on it which will allow online access. Hope I helped man.
