Hello! the awenser is YESSS buy it i have a 3.55 ps3 with a broken blu ray and it updated perfectly fine you just install patches and game update via Pkg.'s with a usb

it should run homebrew.. my disc reader is broken and mine runs homebrew but other than that once you jailbreak it you can download pull ps3 game torrents and ftp them to your ps3 and play them for free! there is tons of benefits of having a jailbroken system

I didn't know you could do that. Where can you find the torrents at? And if I ever get tired of it (doubtful) I should be able to make at least my money back after I jailbreak it shouldn't I? And another thing since the ps3 doesn't have the official game patches already on it would i need to download them or could i just data transfer from my updated ps3 with the official game patches on them? And you say that your blu ray drive was broken, was it the lens?

yea you can data transfer from your OFW ps3 but MAKE SURE YOU GET SPOOFER so you dont accidently update
