(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); i realized that my launch 20gb (upgraded to 60gb hdd) ps3 is on FW 3.42 and i would like to try and jailbreak and install CFW on it. but i am totally a noob and was hoping someone on here could assist me and not mess up my ps3. i mainly would like to be able to run homebrews and do data transfers... and do some other stuff like unlock trophies and what not.

you would have to update to 3.41 or 3.55 i would advise going to 3.55 there is alot of threads on here that tell you what to do bro

i have the geohot 3.55 downloaded on my computer... but im scared i might mess up somewhere. thats why im reaching out the my fellow NGUer's that have experience with doing this to help me.

i will do a guide for you.
1. download the official 3.55 fw
2. update to the official 3.55 fw
3. update to the cfw you want to use
4. download what you want through the instal package files
5. your done.

Be careful with certain 3.55 OFW PUP files, theres been reports that if it was downloaded off the official sony site at a certain time that they patched there 3.55 so that unsuspecting CFW hopefuls would be suckered into it as it disabled certain jailbreaking functions. But yes download OFW 3.55 then find a reliable stable mainstream CFW like Kmeaw, you cant go wrong with it.
