I was unlucky enough to have my younger brother upgrade firmware to 4.30 OFW, i was wondering is there is any way to downgrade to 3.55 for CFWs without buying things? As in like using normal USB sticks etc?

Unforunately not since the exploit way back in fw 3.56 was patched. The only way to downgrade to fw 3.55 is by an e3 flasher(around $80-$90) which requires you to open your ps3 console which is risky.
