Recently, the hard drive messed up and I completely restored it, put on Awesome file manager, black box, etc. I than put on a 4.31 spoof (link: You must login or register to view this content.) and tried to log onto psn so I could download all recent patches for mw2 and all that good shit. I get error code 80710104, so I restart my router and modem, redo my DNS, DMZ all that good stuff. Nothing works, and I'm stuck. Could it be the spoof? Or what? Any ideas?

The error means this - 0x80710104 DNS Error / Experienced with Cobra CFW and trying PS3ITA/Rebug Spoof for PSN.
So why are you still on GeoHotz cfw? Go to rebug 3.55.3 and toggle QA, then update to rebug 4.21.1, the 4.21 cfw needs 3.55 firmware as it can not be installed from any ofw above 3.56. Download are at rebug.me, if you need more help ask.

I JB'd my ps3 almost a year ago, and GeoHotz always seemed stable. Anyways, best cfw for 3.55? Sorry, I havn't looked into this in a long time.
Last Q, are there pkg files or any of that that contain updates for games, including all the files etc.

The best cfw is Rogero, but Rebug has more options and their is kmeaw which is what most of the 3.55 users used, but Rogero basically just updated it with more features.
Also to get online you can use Rebug 4.21.1, which has online built in, but Sony is banning people on cfw so use online at your own risk.
As for the game updates you can find them on the site or at - You must login or register to view this content.
Their is a computer app that lets you download all updates but I can't find just search for ps3 game updater, what did you mean by all files, as in the whole game? Well if the whole games then go here - ps3links.info

How does Sony find out if people are using a cfw? The only reason I want to get online is so I can download the latest patch (ie v1.14 on MW2). So would it be better to use Rogero or Rebug if I just want to get online so I can install the latest patch?

I don't know how they do but they can probably detect the mfw, as for the patch you can download it if you sign in, i've been going online every so often and haven't got banned, so start the game and download the update, I would use rebug 4.21.1 for online.
