No. isn't a spoof.
when you are going to update or downgrade via FW make sure you NEVER had a disc in.
had the same problem ago 2 weeks.

What game was it? So I can check the firmware version it had in it.

Was the game MW3? MW3 carries a 3.70 OFW upgrade.

it was mw3. i didnt think it would actually update to 3.70 haha so i eventually updated to the latest, and got e3 flasher but my ps3 has the samsung chip which i cant get the clip on, oh and then i broke the connection on the motherboard to the fan, so im lost now, might just buy a new one

Dang that sucks, I don't know how to fix that besides buying a new cable to connect the fan.

Edit: Sorry I thought I read the whole thread but skipped over what you had said about the clip with the fan and everything. Sorry to hear but you can buy a new/used ps3 on OFW and I will downgrade you
