By replacing my fat PS3 with another fat PS3 he essentially didn't do anything for me, since I can't restore the data.
Let's give the repairman the benefit of the doubt, and let's assume he really changed the CPU. My question is would that really change the console's ID, and thus data backup could not be fully restored?
Console ID's are unique, every ps3 has a different one, when you do a backup that backup is marked with that ps3's console id, when you try to restore on another ps3 it will compare console id's and if they don't match it will refuse, so the backup you made on the first ps3 would only work on that ps3
or a ps3 spoofed with your console id.

+ CPU don't store the console id (don't think so), so if it was changed you'd still have the same console id.
