Post: Question about repaired PS3 console with YLOD
01-31-2013, 04:41 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My PS3 had the YLOD so I took it to a person that does the repairs. After I got it back, the repairman said that he replaced the CPU. PS3 is now working but when I try to carry out "restore backup data" to my PS3, it says that the data is from another PS3, and not all data will be copied.

My question is - is it possible to replace the CPU and then backup thinks it is from another PS3?

Also before changing the CPU my firmware was 4.25 and now it is 4.11. Is this possible... or rather I have a suspicion that the repairman replace my PS3 with another.
Unfortunately I did not write down the serial number of my PS3.

Suggestions are welcome.=)

Firmware is stored partly on the hdd and on the flash, e.g. nor or nand, so yes he did swap your ps3 with another. Ylod's need reballing so he probablly saved you alot of money by swapping it & to restore the backup you'd need the console id from the other one.

the guy above me is correct. And also like to mention that generally speaking even if he did fix your actual PS3 console, chances are it will ylod again very soon. id be happy with the exchange. Hope this helps

I already bought another PS3 (Slim). The only reason I took the old fat PS3 to repairman was because he claimed that he's going to change the CPU, and because I hoped to transfer the data from fat PS3 to new slim PS3 once the CPU would be changed.

By replacing my fat PS3 with another fat PS3 he essentially didn't do anything for me, since I can't restore the data.

Let's give the repairman the benefit of the doubt, and let's assume he really changed the CPU. My question is would that really change the console's ID, and thus data backup could not be fully restored?

Console ID's are unique, every ps3 has a different one, when you do a backup that backup is marked with that ps3's console id, when you try to restore on another ps3 it will compare console id's and if they don't match it will refuse, so the backup you made on the first ps3 would only work on that ps3 or a ps3 spoofed with your console id. He did swap ps3's :X

+ CPU don't store the console id (don't think so), so if it was changed you'd still have the same console id.
