I get the ERROR: 80010038 when trying to install anything like a demo.

I think this has been a result of turning of the PS3 quickly rather than letting it turn off properly.

Some games I find like Far Cry 3 are unusually laggy and unstable even on campaign mode.

Any way to fix this ?

Try restoring your PS3, or look up the error code.
