Fix this question so it is in proper English, I don't know what you are asking. Where did the 3.55 come into this. You said you had 2 PS3s(4.31 + 4.30) then all of a sudden you mentioned 3.55 HDD.

okay, firmware is not stored on the hard drive it is partitioned on it. u will have to format it and lose all data on it and u will have to put whichever update(either 4.30 or 4.31) on a USB when you do.
firmware is stored in the flash memory(NAND/NOR)
