Post: Can I recover save games from a "dead" PS3 HDD?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hi, I don't know if this thread is in the correct section (if not, move it where it should be).
My PS3 died by the red light/overheat problem (it only lasts about 10 seconds before it shutdowns when I turn it on). I was wondering if there is a way to recover save games from the HDD... I can't do it with the usb transfer/save disk/cloud storage methods because my ps3 doesn't allow me to do it before it halts; I tried to use PS3 HDD Studio, I already used the function "Put HDD Content to 0x00 (All the HDD)", because in some thread I read that was the "first step", but I've not found a clear solution, then it's said that I need to reconnect my HDD to the PS3 and install the update but it won't work (because of the PS3 problem) or make the full image and save it on my desktop (but I don't have enough disk space, I think I'll borrow a 500gb HDD next week); can I still recover the save games on my ps3 by making the image of that HDD? I think on recovering my data and get it to a new PS3 I'll buy next week, is that posible at this point with HDD Studio?

You're talking about recovering data from a dead HDD. His HDD is not dead, his HDD is fine but his PS3 is dead. But he cannot recover the data from his HDD because the PS3 HDD is encrypted and only the PS3 that it was installed in can read the data on it.

So, if I save the whole HDD image to my desktop, there isn't way to decrypt it? With HDD Studio or any other tool?

So, PS3 HDD Studio is only a tool to add data to your HDD, but not to extract data... :( Then the only way to recover my save games would be to repair my PS3 by reballing...? :/

i remember how to use a hdd in another ps3 from a while back but not sure if it still workss...

1.put the ps3 in recovery mode
2.go on software update then start+select
3.then take out the original hdd and put the one you want the stuff from into the ps3
4.turn ps3 off from back or unplug
5.turn ps3 on and it should work if it's not patched

Ok lisn up,

I exadantly wiped out my whole ps3 hdd by putting it in a laptop. After that when u trie to put it back into your ps3 is wants to reformat it. So with my mind on 0 i did. A few days after that i got a flash back and was in shock!. My presious save files of Final fantasy 13 and payday the heist whit easyly 300+ hours were gone... So i started a research of recovering my file system of whiped HDD. Many count of hours of doing research and searching the internet i saw some companys who restored those kind of sanarios. These service cost most likely a lot of moneym, the cheapest i saw was about 120€. After again some hours i found a program that would most likely do the exact same thing as those people at the service. 2 bad i dont know the program name or such anymore. I got those files back in a very strange order and i also needed to rename those files to there original name.

I know its a lot of work but IT IS POSSIBLE i did it almost 2 years ago.. that was a painn in the ass mainn
