How long have you had your ps3 for? Might just need to take apart and clean out dust and other stuff to let it breath once again. If not post back I'll try to help the best I can.

i use that on my DEX ps3 after the cpu gets to about 70 i turn that on and let it run for a bit, havent had anything bad happen while using it

Consider changing the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU, although this isn't guaranteed to fix the problem. I've had my ps3 for more than 5 years.
