Well my old PS2 is on it's last legs likewise the PS1 and my only backup was the Fat PS3 I had which is now dead so I'm looking into buying a replacement disc drive for it and repairing it myself.

Anyone here done anything similar and if so did you have any problems and where did you buy the disc drive from?

by the way the ps3 still turns on and runs, it just doesn't read disks and when you put a disk in and try to force it to read it, it comes out in the same position. I.E. it's not moved in the drive at all.

if your bd driverboard is broken then you need to be on a cfw to repair it..if you are on ofw 3.55+ you need to downgrade..but the old fat models are all nand flash..you can downgrade it only with a hardware flasher and you need to solder it..e3 flasher doesnt work on nand models..but if only the lens are broken or any other part out of the bd drive board then you can only replace it..but you need replace the old bd driver board with the new one..because the driver board is married with the ps3 motherboard..i hope you are on a lower fw then 3.55
