Post: Difference between ps3 3.55 and 4.46 cfw?
09-01-2013, 03:12 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Could anybody tell me what the difference is between 3.55 jailbreak and 4.46 cfw?
Downgrading to 3.55 costs money and 4.46 is free? Can I play pirated games on 4.46 cfw as well?
I just checked Youtube and saw hundreds of videos about 4.46 cfw. What are the benefits?

Sorry for this many questions, but I hope they all get answered :P

You need to be on 3.55OFW/CFW in order to install any CFW. But, it's good practice to go to 3.55OFW to 3.55CFW and QA flag your machine like xkoeckiiej mentioned.
Once you QA flag then install any CFW you like. I would just install any 4.46 CFW out there just to be current.
But, you cannot install CFW on 3.56+OFW. You would need to downgrade to 3.55 in order to do that.

The benefits of Rogero 4.46 v1.01 CFW........well Rogero, I feel, is simple and really stable and I never had any issue with it. There is Rebug 4.46 CFW, has way more feature than Rogero but can be more complicated for newcomers. The only way to find out the difference is by trying out bought of them.

I would read their release notes.
Rogero 4.46CFW:You must login or register to view this content.
Rebug:You must login or register to view this content.

And last, there are different 4.46CFw out there as well besides these 2. I feel these 2 are the most popular.

Alexanders LDZ Ferrox 4.46 v1.2
ARCH 4.46 vA01
Habib 'Kmeaw-Like' 4.46 v2.05

Okay thank you for this helpful information. I've to buy an e3 flasher first before I can install these cfws, right ;p?
Does that firmware support downloaded games from the internet? Because an e3 flasher is pretty expensive, so I want to download games for free. Does an e3 flasher support the ps3 slim?

Well, if you're on 3.56+OFW, then YEAH you need hardware in order to downgrade back to 3.55. The firmware doesn't cares if the games are off the internet. Yeah, It can be a little expensive, but totally worth it in the end mang.
Yup, it does support the slims, only slims up to models CECH 2501. And even some 2501 cannot not be downgrade.
Here is the E3 flasher compatibility list:You must login or register to view this content.
Look at the last column, downgradeable min praxis, and you see the last-bottom 4 are not able to downgrade since they were released on 3.60. So these cannot be downgrade.

To make sure you can downgrade run this: www.homebrew-connection.org/files/PS3/PS3DowngradeChecker/min%20firmware%20downgrade/Tutorial%20PS3%20MinVerChk.pdf

Thanks again. One last question for now: Do I need to solder if I buy an e3 flasher?

No, you don't need to solder just clip onto the NOR chip.

You can ONLY install CFW on a 3.55 OFW, NOT 3.56

Before you expend your money on a flasher, check if your PS3 model can be downgraded to 3.55.
You must login or register to view this content.

Some models have a min fw than don't allow 3.55. ODE (Optical Disc Emulator) is an alternative for these models.
