So, I remembered my old Fat PS3 today which I thought was broken. I've been looking to buy a used PS3 to jailbreak since I don't want to risk losing my only one to a ban. But anyways, I decided to test out my old PS3 and to my surprise, it worked! I then went and checked the system settings and discovered it was on version 2.80 still.

So here's my question, will I have to flash it even if it's below 3.55? I know you flash to downgrade, which is exactly why I'm asking. Since I don't have to downgrade it, could I just download the 3.55 update to a flash drive and update it that way? Then install the CFW?

I'm not looking to spoof it for online, I'm just looking to use it to mod my saves from my main OFW PS3.

I think you can yes. I know 100% you can install 3.55 OFW then any custom firmware.

So no opening the console and getting an E3 Flasher? Just finding the update and installing it? That's the thing that's been holding me back since I've never done something that extreme. Thanks for the quick response!

YeH. You won't need to flash anything. The only way you'll flash it is if the firmware version is above 3.55. So find the real 3.55 firmware and install it in safe menu. Be careful, however, because most 3.55 firmware files you find via Google aren't the real 3.55 OFW. I suggest looking through here for that and the rest can be done via tutorials on here as well as Google. :y:

I have it updated to 3.55 and I plan on getting Rebug 4.46.1 REX CEX. The only thing I really need help finding is the ControlFan package since it's a fat PS3 and it overheated a lot in the past. I'm pretty sure I found the CCAPI download here already. If you could point me towards a good place to get the CFW and ControlFan that'd be great :yes:

yeah sure bro. Rebug has any rebug firmware you might need. Even if you were wanting to switch to DEX later on. Also, make sure you QA Toggle before you leave 3.55 cfw. That way if you ever want to downgrade you don't have to worry. Cheers bro!

I jailbroke it and now (went with rogero 4.46 CEX) I'm trying to run a game on multiman (4.50) and back it up to the PS3. When I try to run the game nothing happens, just a black screen. Before I was getting an error saying the BD-Rom was unavailable but it seems to be working now that I updated it. How do I do this? I did get the ControlFan.pkg installed and working though.
