I think so. I'm not sure about the differences but everybody around the ps3 scene typically says to use artic silver 5.

Arctic silver 5 doesn't do very well for me. I've fixed my ps3 3 times now and it only lasted a week. I just ordered 30g of Arctic Cooling MX-2, so hopefully when I re-apply it, it will make my ps3 last longer. Not to mention I'm gonna be using a fan control utility, so I can turn my fan on max, thus making the GPU and CPU cooler.

When I downgrade consoles and used MX2 the temperature was very good compared to my own console which I used Artic silver 5 for.
I believe with MX2 I had the console on 42-46 degrees meanwhile with Artic silver 5 its on 62-65 degrees.

I totally agree... I have had RLOD about three times now and I'm about to figure out if this MX-2 will make my ps3 last longer. Wish me luck to have my ps3 last at least 2 months!Enzo
