I thought about buying a old PS3 fat from amazon but the PS3 has ofw on it. I wanted to use my 320GB HDD anyways but my questions is: Is it possible to install cfw to a new hdd on the ps3 fat?

The HDD doesn't matter as the firmware is in NOR/NAND flash. You can install CFW on that FAT PS3 and swap HDD before or after that. You need to have the PS3 on 3.55 before you install CFW.
