Yes, you can go online after you jailbreak. But, remember that you can get banned from PSN/SEN if you get caught with running CFW.
There are ways to avoid the ban hammer, but there is no bullet-proof method.


Use PSNinja or/and PSNpatch.

PsNinja= will delete your history of the ps3 running homebrew
PsnPatch= will delete your history and disables CFW syscalls. Disabling CFW syscalls makes the ps3 seem to be running on LEGIT OFW.
Also, PsnPatch will spoof your CID.
