Depends on what you're planning on getting out of your console. If you're using it for mod menus, and other various mods then yes of course I strongly encourage you to get a CFW. Negative side effects would be the possibility for ban, keep in mind it varies from person to person, if you're safe with it you'll more than likely have a much better chance of not getting banned. However if you're modding left and right and not using any form of protection (anti-ban, pspatch before getting online, etc.) then you'll greatly increase your chance of getting banned.
