My friend has a hdd from a super slim cech 4xxx. Can I swap his 500 Gb hdd into my slim and still have the downgrade work? I know most of the firmware is on the NOR chip, but I also know some of it is on the actual hdd. So if I swap to his super slim hdd, can I still downgrade?

It will work. The HDD gets formatted in the first place, so be sure that you got the correct custom firmware on a usb, to install it then.
