Whenever I'm playing a game it gets really loud and a message appears saying something like "PS3 overheating shut off soon" then like 2 minutes later it shuts off and the light on the ps3 goes off

Thermal compound is probably wore off on the CPU and GPU. I would rip it open and apply some new (and good) stuff, like Arctic Silver 5. It's expensive but it'll last the longest and won't cause problems.

put new thermal paste under the cpu, helped me :p

get Control Fan Mod Utility. it changes the speed of the internal fan on the ps3. my ps3 easily gets to 75 degrees Celsius in 10 minutes. with fan mod its easily set to a cool 55 degrees Celsius. google it. its a homebrew that works for most CFWs
