Ah this individual is spot on and in corresponding to my previous statement.
You do not need to flash the machine to retrieve the CID.
I have had countless amounts of ps3's that are in need of a reball,they turn on for 4/5 minutes ( if that ) then shut down due to overheating,these are the types of units where I retrieve the CID's,I have just enough time to...power on the console and retrieve a nor/nand dump.

You are taking from the ps3 then applying the patch back onto it

You can take the bkpps3 dump from a ps3 without installing anything, you only need the bkpps3 bios dump to extract the cid

That way you are not installing or modifying anything on the ps3, just copying the bkpps3 files.

No, you do not need to be jailbroken but you need to have a hardware flasher and make a BIOS backup from which you can extract the console ID using a variety of tools.

The way to get It off an OFW was patched (Use to be able to get It from a save game.)
But you will need and E3 Flasher or progskeet to get a backup and retrieve the backup from that.
