If your current Cfw is not the same as the latest official fw then yes you need a spoofer to access psn.
E.g. Since the latest ofw is 4.60/4.65 then Cfw 4.53 needs to be spoofed to 4.60/4.65...
I state 4.60/4.65 due to the fact that 4.65 ofw is not a mandatory update,meaning,you can still access psn with 4.60/spoof'd 4.60 consoles.
