If you want to go on DEX i would recommend a Rebug firmware (Rebug.me)
For CEX i would recommend Rogero 4.55 (Google it)

There are some mods you can data transfer to your ofw ps3 like cod4, waw or gta4 mods.

Eboot mods or CCAPI/TMAPI tools etc cannot be datatransfered, think about that when you want to datatransfer...
Any 4.xx CFW will do, like rogero or rebug
