Hello NGU users,
I was running CFW Habib 4.65 on my 2K PS3 slim when it started playing up. It would overheat and shut down. I wait for the system to cool down and turn it on again and only after 5 minutes it would shut down again! I installed Rogero 4.55 thinking it was a software issue and also installed a fan control app. It worked for a while and started doing its thing again.
For some strange reason, I realised the PS3 was running silently, and logically inferred that the fan was shutting off. I manually set the fan speed to a high setting so that it is audible and when it shuts down I can tell. Turns out that within 5 minutes of the fan shutting off, the PS3 overheats (of course). At one point I waited for the fan to shut off and when it did, I went to the fan control utility and changed the speed again, but there was no response! The fan won't spin until I reboot the PS3.
Getting quite uneasy about the situation, I opened the PS3 and re-wired the fan to a usb cable and have been playing like that for hours without issue. I am only concerned, for the reason that having a static fan speed may not be most efficient.
From all this information I deduced that the fan issue is purely a software issue, as the fan works perfectly once wired via USB powered with 5 volts.
What could be the problem for the random shutting off of the fan?
MY other question,
Is it possible to modify the PSID of an OFW PS3? I have a banned OFW PS3 and a spare private PSID. Any chance of using it?
Thank you.
so your asking if the fan stuck at the speed its running off 5volts is fine idk, thats a question u need to answer yourself no one else can tell you how hot your ps3 is getting if the temps are fine then its what ever you should get the correct thermal pastes for the ihs and on top of the ihs and take those off and replace the old crap this will more then likely solve your issue why ? cause the cpu/gpu isnt getting enough contact ive heard of this shutting the fan off and causing the system to kill its self to save the cpu/gpu from burning up i would look into that. btw the thermal paste that is on the ihs is almost like a cacked on cement looking stuff it is solid when it drys so you wanna make sure you buy the right kind for that or the ihs will just slide right off when pressure gets put on
