My Girlfriends younger has a ps3 & it is under serious damage.
Before it would read the disc and after a while, it would give an error message (freezing the game).
Later on, after doing the old system reboot method; same problem.
Now all of a sudden, the Ps3 does NOT READ anything AT ALL.
So, I made the assumption it was an internal play & tear. But, I don't know exactly what the problem is,
I have read online on forums and even here, that it can be the Blu Ray Reader is "Damaged".
What if, that is NOT the Problem & Something else?
How Can I determine that?
I have searched for parts to replace it & it is not so bad,
But! I have been looking into modding, it may be a bit more & risky, but there is more to come.
Can you guys help me?

How can I determine what is ACTUALLY wrong with ps3?
What would be the BEST method IF repair is needed?
And is modding better than just repairing?
P.s. -He is now 15, he mostly plays zombies [BO2 & BO1] but his options can always open, as well as mine lol.
