Yes model CECH-2501A can be downgraded i did that same before many times.

@Official poster: Install that through recovery menu and if it comes up with a minimal of 3.50 can be installed on this system then your ok to downgrade but if it comes up otherwise then im afraid you cannot downgrade to 3.55

that says cech251xx mine is a cech 2501a

but the thing is i dont have the ps3 in my possesion its another persons i cant be like go install this for me lol, ill just look for a fat boy im familiar with those.

What i didnt understand is why would there be a cech2501a that is downgradable an there is also one that cant be downgraded thats how i got confused .

Because the 120g shipped with 3.50 right but was also shipped again with 3.56 and 3.60. And in all honesty i just think its a shit move by sony as it shows that they obviously thought it was easier to ship the same console with a different fw version and call it "New"

Anyways download that Pup i linked you to. Rename it to PS3UPDAt.pup and place it in a folder called UPDATE on your usb

So the the folder set up should look like: PS3, UPDATE then PS3UPDAT.PUP
