It is most likely your Mac address is banned, console id's do not just get banned straight away.Do you get to sign in at all? If you don't get to sign in it is mac, if you get to sign in and then sign out and says you are banned it is most likely console id. But in no way you can just get booted offline and say you are console banned.

Does it say account or system banned?
A, they banned your account
B, your Console ID is banned.

Sony have not ever banned via mac address and never will.

Well I was just making it clear to him and you because you didn't. And if he tried to just install another one we'd have him creating a new thread. I'm just trying to help the person out and make sure no one is going to get bricked. I didn't mean any offence by it.
