When i started it up and it says "The sysytem software cannot be run correctly" so i tried reinstalling the system software which was 4.75 OFW and it took about 20 minutes until it started to install the firmware, as soon as it hitss 99% it just sits there. i tried doing it over night still stuck at 99%, went to school and came back still stuck at 99%. Can anyone fix this? i dont way to pay $100+ for service. My HDD is in but ps3 wont read it? need your help!!!

Try going into recovery mode and try restoring PS3 system
