Well best thing to do before updating to CFW would be to data transfer all that stuff to a ps3 with the new hdd in it. Then voila you still got your data off your old hdd on your new one. Now just put it in to your ps3 and install your cfw. Bear in mind cfw is only possible if you're on CFW already or 3.55 or below.

Assuming thats what you meant

You can place a new HDD in at any point the PS3 will format it to the correct format anyways.

Your old HDD won't need to be wiped at all and you can swap between them whenever you feel like it however if you go to a different FW then you will need to update the FW on the old drive as well because the PS3 won't accept a lower FW HDD without having to either update it or format it.

I only no this because I have a old drive as well that has my OFW patches for W@W and things like that and I swap them when I want to host on OFW lol.

Also remember that if it was on CEX then you convert to DEX you will need to update the HDD FW as well because obviously there is some differences.

Just don't worry about it to much and if you wanted you could always place the drive in a PC and clone it then keep the backup on the PC and do what you want with the old drive.

You must login or register to view this content.

I believe this will cover everything that you need to no about dual booting.

It is a very detailed guide created by a very well known CFW developer and PKG updater among other things.

Just make sure you read and understand it clearly.

Things like this should only be attempted if your confident and have made sure to keep backups or anything important.
