you need to downgrade first

For starters its UPDAT.PUP not UPDATE.PUP, try using regero's '999' downdrader to downgrade to 3.55 then go from there.

After converting to dex, when I launch rebug toolbox, my ps3 blackscreens and freezes. Any ideas how to fix this? I'm using rebug 4.70.

if your going to a firmware like a ITA or D-REX you must change your flash to DEX and change your target id. If not your update option will be grayed out... What new firmware were you trying to go to?
