If you want to do some modding without freezing, I would recommend Rebug 4.65.2 REX or 4.70.1 REX. Any others are not really suited for modding... Most are just for emulators and playing backups... Rebug is the best in my opinion if you want to mod games online.

The best firmware I've used would be 4.70.1 D-REX. This firmware has plenty of abilities and options, such as changing back to DEX/CEX without the original eid root nor flash. On top of that, it doesn't make your PS3 sound like a jet.

When I was on cex I used rogero 4.55 and now I am on dex I use ITA4.50. Rebug is also a good option as it has the capability to switch between cex and dex. But tbh it is up to you what u use. Some people are rebug fans and others are ITA fans it all depends on your preference. If you have no clue trial and error. Try different fw and if you don't like them switch between them until you find the fw that you like
