So I've been messing around with this all day and thought I would post to help others in the same situation....
I tried following every tutorial I found with no luck...so here we go...sorry if this has been posted already, I couldn't find these exact settings anywhere and I have additional info on how to do a firewall exception on Norton 360
So I'll begin with the info that IS out there to make this a complete tutorial...under network and settings on my pc I shared my WIRELESS internet connection with my local area connection by right clicking (on the wireless one) and going to the sharing tab and checking the box that says "allow other network users to connect to this computer's internet"...then, I right clicked on the LOCAL AREA CONNECTION and went to IPV4 properties and put 192.168.137.1 as the IP and 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask. EVERYTHING ELSE CAN BE BLANK on pc setup
Next on the playstation I set up a custom connection with everything set to default/auto except ip and dns....for
ip i picked 192.168.137.XX (pick a random number below 255 in place of the XX)
subnet mask...255.255.255.0
default gateway...192.168.137.1
primary dns.... 192.168.137.1 as well
secondary dns... NONE
Next is the part that drove me CRAZY lol...MAKE SURE YOUR FIREWALL IS NOT BLOCKING THE CONNECTION...i forgot to do this and it led to many hours of frustration.
FOR NORTON USERS:
go to settings-->firewall-->
Under "Network Trust" I did FULL TRUST on my main router.
Under "Device Trust" I entered the PS3 IP (192.168.137.XX) and did FULL TRUST again as well as IPS EXCLUSION
only then was I able to log into psn ... I know its a silly mistake but hopefully this helps someone...I really couldn't find this info and i was getting really mad lol, but if this has already been posted then please go easy on me!
PS...i have crappy internet and didn't notice any speed loss...i will continue to test
