U can just don't do firmware update need to read carefully every time

You are safe to update games normally through the game. But I would recomebt to download the update .pkg on to ur USB and install thru install package files. Just because it is easier and also u can keep a backup of the game update on ur PC so u can reinstall easer or to extract the .pkg to get individual files.
