I have no idea why! But at his house, which is in Minnesota, it doesn't overheat at all, anyone have any suggestions on why this would be?

Slim's shouldn't heat up like this... that's why I said how much V does your output give out... your electric socket... since you can't run for example a 110v appliance on a 230v socket... you will need to get a step up transformer...

I was told to plug it into an extension cord instead of straight into the outlet because the outlet will take more power

That's why I asked you... "How much output "V" does your power socket release" is it 110v 220v or 230v... Since if the console is 110V you can't plug it into a 220V outlet...
